A detailed guide about Termux answering all questions about installation, usage, doing hacking, best hacking tools for termux

We all are in the digital world, right and the presence of people online has been increasing year by year. People usually store their details like bank details, passwords, etc in their smartphones. In this internet world, the word “Hacking” might came across you. What Is Hacking? In simple words “Hacking means getting access to the computer or any device or network without permission of the owner”.

So, nowadays everyone has a smartphone with internet access, which made hacking to be easy using a smartphone. Now a question arises that “How To Use Android For Hacking? and “Best App For Hacking On Android?” and the answer is Termux. There are lots of misconceptions about Termux that this app makes our android smartphone into a hacking machine. It’s true but to a limited extent. Now the main questions are “What Is Termux?“, “How To Install Termux?” So, today in this article we are going to discuss every single detail about Termux and also we will clear out all the misconceptions about Termux.

We will also find that it is that perfect to call our android phone a hacking machine after installing Termux or it’s just a normal command-line utility tool. So without wasting any time let’s get started:

What Is Termux?

Termux Is Linux based Terminal Emulator for android. A terminal emulator that allows the users to access the command-line interface ( CLI ) in a graphical environment. If you have studied the basics of the computer then might be you must know about the shell and command-line interface. If not then here is a brief definition of shells that will make your concept crystal clear.

What Is Shell?

A shell is a graphical command-line interface or we can say a program that takes the commands from the users and then instructs the operating system to performs tasks according to those commands. Shell is similar to Black Screen Program (Command Prompt) available in Windows. There are various types of shells in a different operating system like Windows PowerShell, Bourne shell, C shell, Bourne Again shell, etc. All these shells have different sets of commands and behavior.

Most of the Linux based operating systems (Linux Distributions) have Bourne Again shell also known as bash as their default command line.

Why To Use Termux?

Now we know that Termux is a Linux based terminal emulator. But here is a question that why termux is so famous and also called as a hacking machine. Well, that’s neither true nor false. Termux is not a standalone hacking android application as well. As we have discussed above that its a program that takes instructions from the user and then run scripts. In some Linux based Operating systems like Kali, Parrot Os, we have pre-installed tools for penetration testing. Most of these tools are based on Command Line Interface and runs through the terminal. But we can still install various tools and run different scripts made for pen-testing.

So obviously you will get a complete Graphical User Interface (GUI) environment in Android Os but these tools won’t be able to run without any command-line utility. That is why termux is used to install these tools in Android Platforms. Android is also based on a modified Linux kernel, that’s why it is easy to use Bash scripting in it. That’s why termux can easily connect to the file system to perform the majority of the set of features, which allows you to use the Linux command line to install and run various scripts.

So that was just a wrap on introduction to Termux. Now its time to move towards the installation and basic usage of termux.

Installation:

Installing a termux on your Android smartphone is not a rocket science. It’s not much complicated to install it on your smartphone. Your first step is to install Termux  application. Just download, install and run the application.

Usage:

As you open this application there you will find a terminal interface. Termux provides you a basic graphical user interface. But the interface provided is not much good enough. This GUI is based on the X11 Windows System.

Package Management

Termux provides APT and dpkg for package management and installation. Termux is much similar to other Linux based operating systems like Debian and Ubuntu-based distributions. The only major difference is that they don’t have to find FHS (Filesystem Hierarchy Standard). This means that you won’t be able to find some directories on the path or locations as they are in Linux Os.

Installing Packages:

Now after installing the Termux application we have to install some basic packages by using some commands. This step has to do first because this package will install some basic tools that will help you in hacking and all. No, we are going to list the commands that you have to use in your termux app:

Update and Upgrade:

pkg update

pkg update && pkg upgrade

Installation Of Python:

pkg install python

For Python 2:

pkg install python2

For Python3:

pkg install python3

Installing Pip:

pkg install python-pip

Installing Git:

pkg install git

Installing wget:

pkg install wget

Uninstalling Packages:

pkg uninstall pkg-name

List all install packages:

pkg list-all

Installation Of .Deb Files:

You can similarly manage dpkg too. In case you’ve got a .deb file, you can’t install it using the pkg install command. To install such a file, dpkg is used.

Installing:

dpkg -i ./package.deb

Uninstalling:

dpkg –remove [package name]

Listing all installed packages:

dpkg -l

Now rest of the commands are mostly the same as the basic Debian Linux command line.

Graphical Environment Setup

To enable GUI mode in termux make sure you also have VNC Viewer android application on your phone. It’s better for GUI support. For a better experience use any third party system acceleration android application as there is no such support available in termux by default.

As I mentioned above that GUI support uses the X11 Windows System. The X11 is available in a separate repository. To enable X11 for GUI support run the following command:

pkg install x11-repo

Hacking On Termux
