Apple 5G | Apple Dealt For $ 1 Billion & Bought Intel’s 5G Modem

The Brand Seizes More Control Over Its Device Components

A rumor has been out about Apple 5G. As we all know that Apple are known for the things they do on its own. Their quality is different than the other smartphones selling brands. the point is apple has announced that it has acquired the “majority” of Intel’s cellular modem business. As per the reports there was a deal of $1 Billion between Apple & Intel, which involves a transfer of 2200 Intel employees as well as intellectual property, equipment, and leases.

Apple Stated That According To Them:

Combining the acquired patents for current and future wireless technology with Apple’s existing portfolio, Apple will hold over 17,000 wireless technology patents, ranging from protocols for cellular standards to modem architecture and modem operation. Intel will retain the ability to develop modems for non-smartphone applications, such as PCs, internet-of-things devices and autonomous vehicles.

In other simple words, Intel will be no more in smartphone modem business, as taking away one of the competitors (Apple might not be making modems for any other brands.

Intel‘s CEO Bob Swan had this to say:

The agreement enables us to focus on developing the 5G network with the help of Intel’s intellectual property and modem technology.  We’re looking forward to putting our full effort into 5G where it most closely aligns with the needs of our global customer base, including network operators, telecommunications equipment manufacturers and cloud service providers.

Latest we wont be able to see Apple 5G iPhone based on Intel technology for few years, but this deal means Apple would have a major control over the hardware as soon as this transition is complete.

Apple already designs their own CPU’s & GPU’s on their smartphones, and there are rumors that company is seeking to drop Intel’s desktop processors in the favor of their own parts within few years. As Apple being Apple company is looking to make their own cellular models.
